A recording
producation coordinator is like a producer, but only for the recording
session itself. If the musicians recording are not under the care of a
producer, a recording production coordinator can serve much the same
role at the session, keeping an eye on the schedule, oveseeing mic
placement, listening from the control room and offering input to the
musicians from the booth perspective, while not making any significant
decisions
about the content of the music or who is playing it.
The challenges of managing the many details at a recording session
can pile up on the musician who is self-producing, so having another
person there to help keep organized and to act as another pair of "ears" on the session allows the musicians to
concentrate more on the music, and less on the other aspects of recording, so
that the end result is often a better performance.
