Although he retired from fulltime teaching in 1996, Gary Gibson remains active as a music educator. He often gives clinics and masterclasses when he travels to perform at colleges and unviersities. Subjects include general musicianship, jazz improvisation, music technology, music careers, and other various related topics.

Locally, in the Seattle area, he has worked with a number of school groups, including the University of Washington Steelband, numerous high school steelbands, and is a regular faculty member at the Centrum Jazz Workshop/Jazz Port Townsend.
